"Keywords in Composition Studies"

In this article, Vandenburg goes through the important keywords/ elements of composition. He highlights the important facts of each one as well as gives reference and critique to popular concepts of each one. The 9 keywords are audience, coherence, collaboration, form/structure, freshman English, process, revision, rhetoric , and style. Each keyword is its own unique element that comprises composition however all the elements are different and when they are used together they fuse together a well balance composition.
I think that some of the keywords build on each other and are co-dependent in order to create a well written essay/paper/story, for example..freshman English will refresh a student with basic grammar and sentence structure. I agree that it is an essential college course because I think everybody should learn how to write a paper complete with all of the keywords. Whether or not a student plans to major in something in which they will have to do a lot of writing, everybody should not how to compose a piece of written work in a correct and organized manner. Writing is more important that other academic subjects because it is the foundation of everything because it is our language and how we communicate with others.

  1. I would agree with the fact that each key word is necessary to compose a successful piece of writing. I also agree that Freshman English is essential in effective writing because it is the building blocks for college writers. Although, why would you agree that Writing is the most important subject in our curriculum? I do agree that it is very important but I dont agree that its the most important. I believe that in life you should have a balance and understanding in many subjects, including writing.

  2. I agree that the author's keywords definitely built upon each other to make the end result a better product. The keywords are definitely important for students to learn to write a well-written paper, especially at the college level, and in the EWM major.

I agree with this blog Whitney posted because it was exactly what i thought, that the keywords make the paper or story or anything else you write a better written piece. Writing is the ultimate foundation of communication and this article expresses that.

  4. I agree that you need the key words to make a solid piece of writing. The key words are there for the writer to use and they should. I also agree about the Freshman English class being a guide in learning successful writing. I pretty much agree because it was what I thought about this article. What is about writing that you think makes it so important? do you think these key words are as important to other people outside of the EWM major?

  5. I agree that writing is important. However, I disagree that there can be a basic writing course. A course claiming to teach you to write would be never-ending. There are so many formats to writing. Literary criticism, speech, pros, reviews, analysis, there is just too much. However, I do think there could be an essay course which covers presenting a topic researched on, resume and cover letter writing, and the proper ways to write formal articles pertaining to business endeavors, such as proper email style and letter writing. The art of writing is a constant learning experience. This comment is itself an experience. By the way, I love the bubble-gum pink layout. Very chic.
